ITIL Roles: Service Transition


This section contain some of the most important roles within Service Transition.

Change Management

Change Initiator

Users, which are entitled to raise a Request for Change.

Change Authority

Users, which are entitled to authorize changes. These users are most likely named within an authorization matrix.

Change Advisory Board member / head

Board member to discuss and approve changes. The head decrees a veto for all changes.

Service Asset and Configuration Management

Configuration Analyist

Users, which are practitioners, see comprehensive ITIL roles.

Configuration Librarian

Users, which have the big picture and provide guidance and support.

Release and Deployment Management

Release Packaging & Build Practitioner

Users, which create the releases packages and provide the builds for deployment. They are responsible to meet the scope.

Deployment Practitioner

Users, which execute the deployment of a build. This is done in most cases by the 2nd level of Service Operations.

Early Life Support Practitioner

Team of users, which support during the Early Life Support of a release. The group is named separately as the support must be provided on top of the regular 2nd level and 3rd level support of Service Operations.

Build & Test Environment Practitioner

Users which are responsible for test management and test execution.

Knowledge Management

Knowledge Creator

Users, which create new content in a defined quality and standard. The users also ensure that references are maintained and consistent.
